16th WestLicht Photographica Auction

The most recent camera auction was able to outshine the previous auctions both in total turnover as well as the percentage of sold lots. The highlight of the camera auction was the extremely rare Hegelein watch camera, which sold for 108,000 Euros. No less spectacular was the hammer price for the equally rare Leica MS which was auctioned for 96,000 Euros.

Our photo auction, held for the first time was also an immediate success. Almost 90% of the offered lots were sold – the most expensive of them, a vintage print by Austrian photographer Moriz Nähr, was auctioned for 27,600 Euros! The 8.9x6.6in silver print shows Art Nouveau artist Gustav Klimt with his cat. Classics such as Frantisek Drtikol, Ilse Bing, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Inge Morath and Franz Hubmann were auctioned far beyond the asking price. Also the expert’s choice of modern photography has proven to be very successful. Works by young Austrian artists like Anita Witek, Christian Eisenberger, Marko Zink, Elfriede Mejchar, Peter Dressler and Lies Maculan were sold to bidders from all over the world.
