Lecture Dr. Anton Holzer
30.10.2014

In his lavishly illustrated book Rasende Reporter. Eine Kulturgeschichte des Fotojournalismus (Roving Reporters. A Cultural History of Photojournalism) photo historian Anton Holzer traces the history of modern press photography. In an arresting manner Holzer examines the everyday work of early photo reporters and, with a special focus on Austria, describes how the photographic public we nowadays take for granted only developed at the beginning of the 20th century. Holzer follows the photographers on their venturesome rumbles, takes a look into the magazine newsrooms, where reportages and features were conceived and shows how leisurely working newspaper photographers turned into roving reporters, always on the hunt for sensational news.
The lecture was followed by a lively talk between the author and Dr. Michael Freund, Webster University.

The book is available at WestLicht Bookshop.
