Exhibition Opening World Press Photo 14
04.09.2014

The 130 awarded photographs on display were selected from thousands of entries by a rigorous jury appointed by the World Press Photo Foundation, covering subjects from politics, culture, society, sports and nature. Every single picture is a document with an intriguing story to tell, some are disturbing, some are touching, all of them are fascinating.

WestLicht owner Peter Coeln was glad to announce the 13th edition of World Press Photo exhibition at WestLicht and to welcome Carla Kogelman, photographer from the Netherlands and one of this year's contest winners. Kogelman was awarded for her empathetic portrait series on the life of two young girls, Hannah and Alena, aged 7 and 9, living with their family in the Waldviertel. The siblings joined the photographer for the opening.

Rainer Nowak, chief editor of DIE PRESSE, and Anna Lena Mehr of World Press Photo Foundation opened the exhibition, and the numerous visitors, among them MP Peter Pilz, Leica CEO Alfred Schopf, film producer Norbert Blecha, ski-jumper Gregor Schlierenzauer and his uncle and manager Markus Prock, as well as ORF news anchor Tarek Leitner, excitedly explored the awarded photographs.
