FALSCHE WAHRHEITEN

Since its invention, photography has existed in a field of tension between truth and deception. The exhibition FALSCHE WAHRHEITEN ("Wrong Truths") traces the history of photographic manipulation from the beginnings of the medium to the present day. It explores retouching practices, double exposures, photomontage, staged documentary photography, political propaganda, and, more recently, AI-generated image worlds.

Historic examples of deliberate photo editing and visual disinformation enter into dialogue with artistic positions that challenge photography's claim to truth while also exploring the explanatory potential of new imaging technologies.
